Turning lived experience into words, conversations, and spaces for connection.

Calvin J. Ockletree

His story didn't begin with a business.

BEHIND THE WORDS

THE BEGINNING

Calvin J. Ockletree's relationship with writing began long before Life Is Butter. Growing up, journaling became a place to put the emotions he didn't always know how to communicate. Later, discovering poetry gave those thoughts structure, rhythm, and a voice.

FINDING HIS VOICE

After ten years of service in the U.S. Army, Calvin's transition to civilian life brought some of his most difficult chapters. Writing became more than an outlet, it became a way to process, express, and make sense of what he was carrying.

Through poetry, Calvin found the freedom to be both strong and vulnerable and began sharing his words with others who may have been carrying things they couldn't say themselves.

BECOMING LIFE IS BUTTER

What began as personal expression grew into published books, honest conversations, mental wellness advocacy, community gatherings, art, and speaking.

Life Is Butter grew from that journey, a space built around the belief that self-expression matters, vulnerability takes strength, and no one should feel like they have to carry everything alone.

Experience behind the mission.
